Skipping Stones Design Sketch Challenge #113

Happy Tuesday, everyone!

It's time for another sketch challenge at Skipping Stones Design! Our sketch this week is brought to us again by Pamela Young:

For some reason this sketch wasn't so easy for me to work with but after a bit of deliberation, I'm really glad with the way my card turned out!

As you all know, I'm in LOVE with SSD's Everyday Blessings set. I think I can consider it my go-to stamp set now since I've used it so much - for birthdays, for thank you cards, for thinking of you cards. It's perfect!

I decided to keep this card super simple and just stamped an image and sentiment from the set. Sometimes, I think that, less is more. :)

Getting Cricky's Simply Sunday Challenge: Fantasy Land!

It's time for another Simply Sunday Challenge over at Getting Cricky! This week is all about FANTASY LAND - princesses, fairies... anything you can FANTASIZE about, then it's all about this challenge!

Here's my card for today:

Yay for using my Cricut again! I'm totally in love withe the Once Upon a Princess cartridge. There are SO many adorable images on it. I really need to sit down and play with it - M would love that! I used a sweet sentiment from the new K Andrew Designs It's Valentines! set. Super fun and verstatile - perfect for your upcoming Valentine's cards!

Birthday Sundaes #41 - Easel Birthday Card!

Good Morning!

It's time for another challenge at Birthday Sundaes! This week we're challenging you to create an EASEL Birthday Card!

Now if you don't know how, there are a bunch of tutorials out there to create this fancy fold. Here's one at SplitCoast Stampers...

Here's my card for this week:

supplies: CS: Red, green (Bazzill), White (Neenah); DP: Echo Park; digi stamp: Tiddly Inks; Birthday sentiment: Taylored Expressions; inside greeting sentiment: My Favorite Things; ink: Tuxedo Black (Memento), Black Soot (Ranger); label punch (EK Success); stamp border die (My Favorite Things); stickles, copic markers

Would you believe me if I told you that this card was made with another image I had colored but never used on a card? Thankfully, I found it - it fits my card perfectly!

And for some reason, I don't "do" the easel fold very often when I make cards - but this challenge really pushed me and now I'm convinced I need to do it more often! :)

project life || title page + week 1

Hi everyone!

So you may remember from this post that I've decided to tackle Project Life. :) And I'm proud to say that now it's almost the end of week 4 of 2012, I've successfully completed layouts for weeks 1 + 2.

I would catch up to week 3 but I just worked all weekend, so it's going to have to wait... For now, it's worked so that I complete 2 weeks at a time.

Anyway, here's a peek into my project...

From the side:

 I decided to use the 12x12 We R Memory Keepers in Black Faux Leather. The Virgo in me wanted to keep the look uniform and simple, and I wanted it to be consistent, if I were to (hopefully) continue this in the years to come...

I got the binder labels HERE and customized it in Photoshop.

Ahh, the view of my title page. This awesome 6x12  was a freebie from the fabulous Cathy Zielske and can be found HERE. She's so awesome that she made pages for every Project Life kit out there. I guess I should mention that I used the Clementine kit. I really love all the oranges and bright colors! I do have to admit, though, that when Amazon finally got them in stock, I purchased the Cobalt kit too. I'm indecisive like that! *lol*

I do plan to use the Cobalt kit for another project in a few months - just wait and see!

So anyway, I took Cathy's 6x12 title page and edited it in PSE. And I wasn't sure what to put in the back of it... I didn't want to just lay down a strip of plain cardstock, kwim? So I had a brilliant idea of enlarging a family pic and trimming it down to 6x12.

(The pictures I used for my tile pages are by ultra-spective)

I ended up making one big 12x12 image, with one 6x12 of the CZ (Cathy Zielske) title page and the other half with my family's picture in Photoshop. I then had it printed at Costco and trimmed it down to fit in an American Crafts 6x12 page protector. I heard the Becky Higgins page protectors are sold out on Amazon at the moment - good thing I have a ton of these in my supply! :)

I have yet to create an awesome Project Life stash that I've been seeing everywhere, so my supplies are thrown all over the place. One day I'll be organized!

So anyway, I altered up the suggested title page a bit. I'm a huge creature of comfort and I've always liked to color in the lines so it's hard for me to picture something a different way AFTER it's already been suggested to do it one way. I did, however, add a couple punches, used some thickers, some stamps, a Tim Holtz clockface - I think that's pretty awesome of me, right?

And on to the first week:

Easy peasy! I didn't really take a picture everyday. And most of these pics are from my iPhone. And you know what? That's ok by me! I'm just glad I got to capture a little snippet of our lives - first Target receipt of the year (yay for spending less than $100!), a new cupcake flavor I baked, a funny little quote J said....

And that's why I really love this project. :)

I'm really  hoping I can follow through with this. I plan to post my layouts more consistently - like maybe I'll pick a certain day of the week when I'll post them. They won't be immediately after the week ends because, let's face it, I work. I work nights. I manage the household and the kids are REALLY attached to me. *lol*

I really love this week's simple sketch! And you know I had to use one of my very favorite SSD sets again - it's just something about those birds and the sentiments in that set that I just ADORE! I also added a bit of texture with the woodgrain stamp in the Grunge set - LOVE the woodgrain! :)

Birthday Sundaes #40: Birthday Card w/ a Birthday Sentiment!

For my card today I was inspired to color up the adorable Robbie the Robot! I kind of played around with the colors and love how he turned out! The sentiment is from an old SU! set - Lots of Bots, I think, but I'm not sure. I really love how it says "Happy Birthday, Human." *lol*

my 2012 OLW + J's Pre-K layout

Hi all!

Well, I finally got a chance to sit and scrap - well, DIGITAL, that is! You know, with working full time and being a mom & wife full time, any extra time I have is precious. Whether it's creating or creating blog posts or commenting on blogs, etc., I really need to keep myself focused, develop a daily to-do list and always have a plan (and a back-up one too should things go awry!).

So, I've decided to incorporate and take on a word for my "One Little Word" endeavor this year:

Organize.

Super simple, but to me, it speaks volumes. Organization is not only about containers and shelves, it an action plan. And I'm going to tackle it head-on.

When I was younger, I had my books in a bookcase. I collected stickers and all of my stickers were kept in albums so I could look at them every day. I kept all letters written to me in a little red, plastic luggage that used to hold art supplies.  I've always been a fan of office supplies. I kept each school subject in its own binder with its own dividers. I was SUPER organized. It's a HUGE Virgo trait... and one that I've lost since becoming a mom.

But I'm determined to get back on track and re-organize every aspect of my household. The areas in need of serious TLC? The kitchen, the garage, the laundry room, the master bedroom retreat, and my craft room.

And to demonstrate accountability, I'm going to post pics and write about my progress from time to time.

So anyway, on to the digi page I created...

I had the urge to scrap the other day and I didn't know where to start. I've been trying to tackle Project Life, but I wanted to do something else. My scrap room overwhelmed me and playing with paper didn't seem to interest me - Sometimes by having TOO much stuff, I get overhelmed and uninterested.

So late at night last week, I thought that I would work on another page for J's School Album. This is a layout that will be the title to the next part of his school adventures. It'll go along with the preschool layout I made last year.

I seriously can't believe how big he's getting and in a little more than two weeks I'll have a 5 year old. My baby is growing up!

I thought for this week's challenge I'd pull out an oldie, but a goodie - I love Rustic Tiles - I thought image totally went well with the SU! DP I was hoarding. *lol* And the sentiment in the corner is from the old Grunge set - Fun, right?

hey hey hey... what's APP-ening!

Does anyone remember that show "What's Happening!!'"?

*crickets*

Ok, maybe it's just me and my sister, then. *lol*

Anyway, lookie what I finally splurged on:

Finally... I've got my iPhone 4S! If you remember this post, I whined about how it was time to get a new phone. Well, I figured new year, NEW PHONE! And yay for it being a HUGE part in me accomplishing my goal for Project Life 2012! :)

I'm SO loving the speed of the phone - no more Edge network! And I'm loving all of the cool apps I've downloaded. Wanna see my faves?

Well, duh. I can't live without checking my emails about a million and 10 times a day!

Yes, and Facebook too. :)

Yep, same goes for Twitter.

And then there are some really awesome apps that I'm SO loving for the simple fact that it's making Project Life (and real life) easy to keep up with (so far).

Instagram... I've had it for a while and used it with my original iPhone, but with all the updates to the app, it really wasn't compatible with my old phone anymore. But now with using it with my new phone, I know now what I've been missing! (haha Marjorie!). Awesome little, powerful app. I may love it more than Facebook.

Momento... This app syncs my FB, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr - everything (well, except my Typepad posts! That would be awesome if it did!). and puts it into an awesome timeline that I can look back on. It even allows me to input my own little blurbs/diary enteries in the actual Momento app so I can view it later - along with everything I posted during the day. It's even so awesome that when I downloaded it and synced it to my accounts the other day, my posts from 2009 were showing up! It was a trip to look back at what I was posting! Best app EVER! Perfect for Project Life!

my 365...I tried to keep up with Project 365 last year but that was a huge FAIL. I tried using the Project 365 app, but it didn't really work for me. Super happy finding my 365!  It's awesome so far!

Reeder... I downloaded the Reeder app when I first got my iPad in May. I love using it for checking out my subscriptions in my Google Reader. It's clean, simple, and it really makes the posts that I read, beautiful. It helps keep me up to date with my blog reading. So when I got my phone, I had to check to see if there was a Reeder app for the iPhone. So happy to see there was - Makes life so much easier!

And then there are a few others that I just love as well... Pinterest, Starbucks (Did you know you can pay with your PHONE if you have a Starbucks account and a registered card?!), Amazon, Ebay, the local news, CNN, etc... I feel so connected and in the loop. Maybe too in the loop sometimes. It seems like I'm always looking at it!

But, I just love my phone.

This week is a combo challenge - not only is the photo your inspiration, but it must be for a winter birthday and it must include a Snowman! Challenging, right? :)

So I really loved the non-traditional colors of the snowman picture so I used up more of the My Mind's Eye paper I've been hoarding. Love using my snowman Cricut cartridge too! :) Finally I used a couple of stamps from the Winter Wishes stamp set - yay, I got a chance to use that set again and it's the middle of January! :)
